Red-Flowered Mallow Seeds: Modiola Caroliniana - Pollinator-Friendly Wildflower
I call them fox buttons because I can’t help but imagine a little fox hawking these seed pods at a woodland market, claiming they’re the finest fasteners in the forest. Whether weed or wildflower, they’ve charmed their way into my garden and my imagination.
About:
Red-flowered Mallow (Modiola caroliniana) is a creeping, wild cousin of the hibiscus, known for its small, coral-red blooms and quirky button-like seed pods. It spreads joyfully along the ground, adding a splash of color and whimsy to warm garden beds, rock borders, and tucked-away corners.
This low-growing ground cover is loved by bees, admired by plant nerds, and hardy enough to thrive in tricky spots. Once you meet it, you’ll never forget it.
